Tiwayo is a Paris-born soul singer and songwriter. His name comes from the initials T.Y.O., after a Memphis bluesman who, struck by the contrast between his youthful look and his voice, nicknamed him "The Young Old."
Outsider, released April 10, 2026, is Tiwayo's third album, recorded at Adrian Quesada's Electric Deluxe Studio in Austin, Texas, with contributions from Black Pumas members and other musicians from the retro-soul scene. Doyle Bramhall II plays guitar on three tracks, including "Daddy Was Born With The Blues," a tribute to Tiwayo's late father, with strings by Sly5thAve. Kendra Morris joins him on "Unchained Lovers." The album follows two earlier releases, Desert Dream and The Gypsy Soul of Tiwayo.
With his smooth, buttery vocals leading the way, Outsider is a timeless collection of classic soul and R&B, featuring tender lyrics, ornate arrangements, and Quesada's masterful production.
Tiwayo delivers a striking soul album, the fruit of a long artistic pilgrimage to the roots of American music.
His voice is rich and packed with emotion and the songs have a beautiful retro feel.
The modern incarnation of Memphis soul. A timeless soulful performance.
A deeply human, inhabited record. A huge personal favorite.
A record that feels as lived-in as his voice.
